Workshop on American Sign Language Slang and Colloquialisms Part 1

This workshop is for American Sign Language teachers, teachers of the Deaf, Deaf community members, Interpreters for the Deaf. This workshop will be given by Brenda Aron. This workshop is hosted by Yellow Wood Academy.

This workshop will provide participants an opportunity to learn some of the newest and often used ASL slang signs and colloquialisms and their meanings. There will be opportunity for participants to have practical application of the signs. This workshop will cover about 40 ASL signs. Part 2 will be offered Saturday, January 17, 2015 from 9:00-1:00 PM.

This workshop will be in American Sign Language only. A Certificate of Attendance showing total hours will be awarded. You may sign up for Washington State Clock hours. Light snacks and beverages will be provided. Lunch is on your own after the workshop.

Brenda Aron is a Deaf native ASL user and ASL teacher. Her Masters is in Teaching American Sign Language. She has presented and taught ASL and Interpreting Education.

Workshop will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Hall (Fellowship Hall-lower level),
8501 SE 40th Street, Mercer Island, WA 98040.

Take I-90 East or West to the Island Crest Way exit
Follow Island Crest Way South to SE 40th Street
Turn left on 40th Street for 1.5 short blocks
At the stoplight turn right onto 86th Avenue SE. Turn right into the first driveway. There is a parking lot and entrance to the workshop. To park at the lower entrance of the church (and before getting to 86th Avenue SE), turn right onto 85th Avenue SE, then into the first driveway on the left.

The location is wheelchair accessible. Please contact us if you need other accommodations.

Cost: $60 dollars for the four hour workshop if pre-paid prior to the workshop by
Friday, October 31, 2014 or $70 dollars at the door. Clock hours are $5.00 per workshop. If there are insufficient enrollment by that date, this workshop will be cancelled.
