Hey WSRID!  (yes, you!)  It's that time again...

Please join us for our Annual Membership Meeting (formerly known as the Annual Business Meeting) in Ellensburg, WA. on Saturday November 3rd, 2018. This is a great opportunity to participate in the decisions that shape our membership organization, as well as to meet and get to know other Washington State interpreters!  In addition to the membership meeting we will be offering a free workshop for WSRID members.  Lunch will be provided, and please email dietary considerations to:  wsridevents@gmail.com

Business Practices for Interpreters--Workshop Information:

This workshop will focus on what it takes to manage your interpreting business professionally and effectively.  Jesse “Rupert” Dubler will guide us through the following topics:

·       The difference between working as an employee and as an independent contractor. 

·       Strategies to protect ourselves against potential liabilities, as well as terms and condition that could be included in our contracts.

·       Data regarding rate and term variables affecting the interpreting profession.


The target audience for this workshop is working sign language interpreters

CEU Information:  ASL Communication is an Approved RID CMP Sponsor for Continuing Education Activities. This Professional Studies program is offered for 0.4  CEUs at the little/none Content Knowledge Level. No partial CEUs awarded.  You must attend both sessions to get CEUs.

Language Policy: WSRID, as a diverse and inclusive body, has adopted a formal communication policy of direct communication in ASL for all events sponsored by WSRID. This workshop and meeting will be provided in ASL.

Jesse “Rupert” Dubler, CDI, has had the privilege of working in the interpreting field for over 14 years in various capacities including tutor, mentor, instructor, trainer, researcher, presenter, and colleague. He recently completed the filming of the Business of Interpreting online course in a partnership with CSD Learns and is passionate about the professionalization of the sign language interpreting as well as how we can all collaborate to support each other. In the past five years, in a partnership with Brenda Schertz, CDI, he has provided an intensive 40 to 120-hours Deaf Interpreter trainings to nearly 100 people. He has presented numerous times locally as well as at the recent Region V Conference. He is currently the Director of the Sorenson Olympia VRS Center in Olympia, WA and lives there with his family, both human and animals (cat, dogs, chicken, and soon bees).
