MITF Meeting Tacoma Deaf community

The Medical Interpreting Task Force (MITF) is planning statewide meeting. 

MTIF Goals for these meetings:

1. Inform local communities of MITF’s existence, mission and the issues
2. Gather local stories from deaf and deaf-blind people about barriers to interpreting in healthcare settings (medical interpreting) and identify those who may have legal cases. 
3. Recruit local people to be involved in the efforts of the MITF
4. Discuss need to establish medical interpreting standards and best practices with deaf, interpreter, referral agency, and medial provider perspectives
5. Discuss the HCA/Medicaid, Hospitals, Private practitioners legal obligations
6. Discuss Medicare (does not cover interpreting), Medicaid (covers only outpatient services, at hospitals - does not cover inpatient), Private Insurance (does not cover interpreting). 
7. Discuss long-term strategies and solutions

Tentative times and dates listed below, location details coming soon! 

Friday evening meetings 6:30pm-9:30pm for Deaf, DeafBlind and hard of hearing only 

Saturday morning meetings 9:30am-12:30pm for interpreter, interpreter coordinator only
