Community of Practice: Self-Care

The presenter will lead the group of interpreters through discussions and activities about different areas of self-care.

Facilitator: Jamie L. De Armas, RID CI & CT, B.S. Business Management. A native California girl, Jamie studied American Sign Language at Palomar Community College, in San Marcos, CA. She has worked in the field of interpreting since 1985 and obtained her certifications in 2003 and 2006. Jamie moved to Phoenix, Arizona and completed her B.S. degree in Business Management from The University of Phoenix in 2001. While working in Mesa Community College, she developed, implemented and supervised an interpreter mentoring program. Jamie moved to Spokane Valley, Washington in October 2010. Currently, she works in VRS and community interpreting. Jamie has over 30 years experience in the interpreting field and within many different settings. She is currently continuing her studies for legal interpreting. Jamie works to guide, mentor and support her colleagues and new members to the interpreting field. For Jamie, it’s about kindness, support and bringing out the best in people.
