Registration opens Monday, May 11th at wsrid.com/events with a 15-person limit for each webinar. In an effort to provide these webinars to those most impacted and to as many members as possible, we ask that you limit your registrations to no more than two. Picturing the English: Visualization Techniques for English to ASL Interpreting

May 29th @ 1–3pm (PST) — Presenter: Teresa Edwards

In this activity driven webinar, interpreters will practice using visualization as a way to connect to and remember the source message. They will also be asked to assess how their schema and ability to visualize the content of the message contributes to the linguistic and cultural effectiveness of their interpreting work.

About the Presenters:

Teresa Edwards, BA, CI/CT, began her career as an educational interpreter in 1997. She has worked in K-12, post-secondary, community, and VRS settings. Her love of all things interpreting, along with all things learning, led her to become a mentor and instructor early in her career. She currently serves as an interpreter education specialist with Sorenson. In addition to mentoring, Teresa has experience with rating, assessment, instructional design, and presenting webinars and workshops. She received a bachelor’s degree in communication, speech teaching, with minors in sociology and psychology. She also completed graduate coursework in instructional psychology and technology.

Henri Grau is an accomplished photographer, graphic designer, and teacher. His teachings focus on skill building through content awareness and deliberate practice. He is passionate about the visual arts and while attending Gallaudet University, studied under Clayton Valli, MJ Bienvenu, as well as the late Gil Eastman and Eric Malzkuhn. His career has included working in television stations, graphic design, photography, and teaching American Sign Language for the University of New Mexico. Henri currently resides in New Mexico and works for Sorenson Communications in the Interpreter Education & Professional Development department. Henri is passionate about the topic of Visualization. He looks forward to helping you “see” what you hear and applying that to your interpretation work.
