Ever wondered how much you're really worth?  Have you ever been asked, "Why do you charge so much?

Join Theresa Smith in a discussion about how we determine a reasonable fee for our work.  

  • What are the real costs to you, the interpreter, for the provision of services and how much do you need to charge to cover them?  

  • What are some of the business, cultural, and historical pressures on our fees?

These and other questions will be explored in a mix of lecture and small group discussion.

About the presenter:

Theresa Smith, Ph.D., MCSC, SC:L coordinated and taught in the ITP at Seattle Central Community College (SCCC) for 14 years where she wrote the original curriculum for both the ASL and the Interpreting Programs.  In 1989 she left SCCC to become a co-founder and then Director of the American Sign Language, Interpreting School of Seattle (ASLIS) 1989 - 2007.  Since that time, she has primarily been doing consulting work and freelance interpreting.  

0.5 CEUs in the category of General Studies will be offered by the Western Region Interpreter Education Center at Western Oregon University, an approved RID CMP and ACET sponsor


LANGUAGE POLICY

WSRID, as a diverse and inclusive body, has adopted a formal communication policy of direct communication in ASL for all WSRID sponsored events.  This workshop will be provided in ASL.


REFUND POLICY
All refund requests must be made in writing
  • Refund requests made on/before February 11 will receive a 100% refund.
  • Refund requests made between February 12 and February 14 will receive a 50% refund.
  • Refund requests made on/after February 15 will not be eligible for a refund.
